Exit of Shirin & Farhad
Babak Kazemi is an Iranian self-taught photographer that experiments with a combination of traditional techniques and chemicals. His photographs explore the history of the province of Kuzestan where he grew up, and focuses specifically on the impact of oil production on the region. Exit of Shirin & Farhad is part of a series of his works based on the ancient, love story between a Princess Shirin and Farhad, a common laborer, who both die for the sake of their forbidden love. Babak's stunning versions of this poignant tale touch all, regardless of gender or race, and underscore the deeply personal understanding of the universal human condition that his work is famous for.
Babak Kazemi (b. 1983) completed his B.A. at Ahvaz Islamic University in graphic design. His work has been featured in collections at the Maraya Art Centre, The Museum of Contemporary Art Tehran, and the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago.
